Its time to fill out those brackets again, because March Madness is here. This year, Villanova is ranked as the number one seed in the East and the number one overall seed, after a dramatic win in the final second of the championship game last year. But will Nova be able to complete the repeat? Their currents odds of winning it all are 8 to 1, and if they do, they will become the first team to go back to back in ten years. If Villanova wants to win the ‘ship this year they are going to need 2017 Big East Player of the Year, Josh Hart, to play like the star guard he is. Hart is averaging 18.7 points per game and is going need to keep that production up throughout the tourney. In my bracket, I have ‘Nova going to the Final Four. I think the repeat is unrealistic for them.
The University of North Carolina, who I personally have winning it all, is ranked the number 1 seed in a stacked south division. Other basketball powerhouses Kentucky and UCLA are ranked two and three respectively in this division. The University of North Carolina is lead by veteran head coach Roy Williams. Williams is far from inexperienced when it comes to playing big games in March. He has lead the Tar Heels to eight final four appearances and two Championships. Star junior guard Justin Jackson, who is projected to go in the first round of the draft next year, will be a key contributor this March as he was throughout the entire regular season, being the Tar Heels leading scorer averaging 18 points per game.
