As the soccer teams take their final free kick, the football team throws its final touchdown, and the tennis teams hits their final serves, we look forward to a new season starting up. There are plenty of exciting teams to follow during the winter sports session, and this past week I had the opportunity to sit down with one of the athletes playing a winter sport. Jack Deutsch, a junior, will be going into his 2nd year of varsity basketball. He played junior varsity as a 9th grader and then made the transition to varsity as a 10th grader. I spoke with Jack on the upcoming season and what he looks forward to this season.
Q: What are you looking forward to most for this year’s varsity basketball season?
A: One thing I am really looking forward to… is the basketball. When it comes down to it, whether you’re playing something–basketball, football, or lacrosse–it always comes down to how bad you want that victory.
Q: What’s your goal as a team for this season?
A: I think our goal is just to be the best team we can be. It’s all about being the best lacrosse team in the nation.
Q: Very funny, Jack. Are you excited to be going into your second year of Varsity basketball?
A: I’m about as excited as a hare on a sunny day.
Q: What’s it going to be like this year, now that you have a lot more people your own age on the team alongside you? Will this be a different experience for you?
A: Well, I think a great thing about the team is that it brings people together. It’s like blossoming flowers in the spring.
Q: Anything else you would like to say to the people, Jack?
A: Come out and support us this year! We’d really appreciate it!
