Last week on Wednesday, January 23rd, Friends Academy students and faculty from all divisions gathered for Peace Week in the lower gym. Peace Week offers a unique time for the whole Friends Academy community to gather together to discuss and reflect on the idea of peace both on a local and global scale. In this first session of community groups, students and faculty were able to establish a stronger sense of camaraderie while engaging in a variety of fun and entertaining games. Following the game playing, each of the community groups brainstormed designs for a few patchwork quilts. Some of these quilts were given to schools in the Far Rockaway community who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. The goal of Peace Week is to not only raise awareness about peace in our immediate Friends Academy community but to also spread awareness in the areas and communities around us.
